Introduction:
Pursuant to s. 1002.33(6), F.S., the School Board is annually required to timely review and consider all new charter applications and, by majority vote, approve or deny each application.

On August 1, 2012, the District received an application for Classical Preparatory School.  A five-year charter is requested.  Last year, an application for Classical Preparatory School was submitted but was denied based upon statutory good cause.
Description:
The mission of Classical Preparatory School is to provide a language-focused academic program to students in Kindergarten through grade 12.  The school will focus on the three-part process of classical education:  Training the mind to absorb facts, thinking through arguments, and learning the art of self-expression.  Character education will also be an important component of the school's curriculum.

If approved, Classical Preparatory would open for the 2013-2014 school year.  In year 1 the school projects it would serve 254 students in grades K-8; year 2:  342 students in grades K-9; year 3: 430 students in grades K-10; year 4: 474 students in grades K-11; and year 5: 518 students in grades K-12.

Classical Preparatory, Inc. is a Florida non-profit corporation and has been granted 501 (c) (3) status.

A location has not been confirmed; however, the applicant is considering a facility near I-75 and SR 56 in Wesley Chapel.

The Charter Application Review Committee conducted a comprehensive evaluation of the application.  Seventeen of the 18 sections of in the Florida Model Charter School Evaluation Instrument met or practically met the minimum standard of review.
