On July 2, 2013, the School Board approved the contract to purchase twenty-two (22) acres of property in the Smith 54 development for a future elementary school. This property is located on the south side of State Road 54 just east of the Suncoast Parkway. It is not anticipated that this elementary school site will be developed for at least three years.
The owner of the adjoining property, H. Vance Smith, is the same person who we purchased this school site from. He has maintained an agricultural lease agreement on this site with the Golden A Cattle Company for many years. This agricultural lease agreement maintains what has historically been in place on this site. An agricultural lease provides several benefits to the District. It saves the District costs associated with the maintenance and upkeep of the vacant property and ensures the presence of someone who can help to keep the property free from trespassers and vandalism.
The renewed lease will be effective immediately, will end on September 30, 2014, and will be automatically renewed for one additional year. The District may terminate the lease with thirty (30) days written notice.
